Cape Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde (Portuguese: República de Cabo Verde), is a sovereign state African island located in the Atlantic Ocean, more specifically in the Macaronesian volcanic archipelago of Cape Verde, off the coast Senegalese. Its form of government is a parliamentary republic and its territory is organized into 22 concelhos or municipalities. Its capital, and in turn the most populous city, is Praia.
The islands were uninhabited until they were discovered in the fifteenth century by the Portuguese, who proceeded to colonize to make it a slave trade center. Most of the current inhabitants of Cape Verde descends from both groups: settlers and slaves. The name comes from the peninsula archipelago of Cape Verde, the westernmost point of the continent of Africa, which is situated near the city of Dakar (Senegal).

With an area of 4,033 square kilometers, is made up of ten volcanic islands and five islets. The islands (according to their position on the wind) are divided into two groups: Windward and Leeward. The Windward Islands are formed by: Boa Vista, Sal, Santo Antao, Sao Nicolau, Sao Vicente and Santa Luzia (uninhabited). The Leeward Islands are formed by Fogo, Brava, Maio, Santiago.
Sal, is an island and a municipality in Cape Verde. It is the main tourist destination thanks to its beautiful beaches of golden sand. Its elongated shape reaches a maximum distance of 30 km from north to south and 12 km from east to west being its total area of 216 km2 Its international airport (Amilcar Cabral) is the gateway to the archipelago.
The island of Sal, Cape Verde, is all beach, boys. White sand that stretches along one crystal clear turquoise water is perfect for a relaxing day at the beach or intense sports. The snorkelers and scuba find lots of tropical fish, turtles and dolphins to be admired. - Visa: Cape Verde To enter you must present a valid passport and a visa. You can get the visa at the consulate in Cape Verde or directly upon arrival at the airport in Salt consulate in Madrid costs 26.40 euros (within 48 hours), or 31 euros if urgent. The visa at the airport costs 50 euros.
